No matter the ancient beads or the beads we wear in daily life, if they belong to semi-precious stones and gems, they should be kept carefully, for which, we should know dos and don’ts first.
For example, many people like to use ultrasonic to clean, thinking that it is convenient. Actually except diamond, ruby, sapphire, spinel, zircon, alexandrite and so on which are solid and have high mhos hardness, many other semi-precious stones and gems can not be cleaned by ultrasonic. It will do harm to the beads. Especially the beads like pearl, beeswax, amber, emerald, cristal, coral, aquamarine, chrysolite, nephrite, opal, tourmaline, turquoise, peridot, topaz, garnet and so on, they can’t be cleaned by ultrasonic. Not only the surface but also the molecular structure will be damaged, you’d bette not try to do it. We should not use steam or hot water to cleam them, there will be not good but harm. We also should not use any clorox, detergent and soda power to clean the jewelry mentioned above, because it will do harm to them in different degrees. We should not brush them with soap powder, toothpaste or hair pick, so that they won’t be scratched. They should be plastered with soft and wet towel, lie them back after being cleaned, store them away after they are dried.
