The abilities of different gems of resolving the light into various colors are different. The gems with cat-eye effect include alexandrite, tourmaline, apatite, beryl and so on. Among them, the alexandrite is the most apparent, most like cat’s eye, so the cat-eye stone specifies the alexandrite with cat-eye effect. Discoloration effect is the phenomena that some gems reflect different colors under different torching lights, like the green variant alexandrite have red and green photic zone, in the sunlight with more red light waves can make the red of the gem darker, with more green light waves can make the green of the gem darker, so this kind of gem is called the Alter Stone.
