The main origins of the emerald are Columbia, Ural, Brazil, India, South Africa, Zimbabwe and so on. Among them, Columbia is the largest fine quality emerald origin in the world. The 2 main emerald mines in Columbia are Muzo and Chivor, they spread within 100 kilometers to the northeast of Bogot, located in the Cordillera Central. The Muzo and Chivor mines have always been the largest supplier and fine quality emeralds, monopolizing the international market, composing about 80% of the output of the world’s fine quality emeralds. The Columbia emeralds are mainly produced in the calcite Na-feldspar veins of the sedimentary rock class, the wall rock is carbonaceous shale and limestone, containing emerald’s calcite vein, dolomite’s calcite vein, pyrite’s vein, usually the length is 60 m, the width is 0.1~20 cm, taking on vein like and netted venation. The emerald was produced in the mine, taking on porphyitic crystal shape. The emerald takes on columnar crystal, the length is 2~3 cm on average, the color is from light green to dark, with little blue tone, good texture, transparent. We can see inside the emerald the gas-liquid-solid three-phase inclusions, such as the carbon monoxide bubbles, liquid sodium, cube salt and so on, which are rare in other areas’ emeralds except in Columbia. In addition, there are often the inclusions, such as iron pyrites, black carbonaceous matter, crystal, chromite and so on. It is generally considered that the emeralds, with little blue in the Chivor mine, are the best in quality, which can be addressed as the most beautiful emerald in the world. A large emerald, weighing 7025 g, was found in Columbia in 1969.
