Its Chemical formula is SiO2. The pure, clear and transparent crystal is the variety of quartz. Its chemical element contains 46.7% SI and 53.3% O. It takes on various colors due to many different mixture or mechanical mixture. Purple and green are caused by ferric iron (Fe2+), purple can also be caused by titanium (Ti4+), and other colors are caused by in the colors inside. Inside the crystal, it contains such inclusions as sugary and fragmented goethite, hematite, rutile, magnetite, garnet, chlorite and so on; Quartzrutilated is formed by the hair-like and needle-like mineral which can be seen by eyes. It is called purple crystal containing manganese and iron; yellow crystal containing iron; smoke-color like crystal containing smoke crystal; grey called tea-colored crystal; black and transparent one called black crystal; light green one called chalcedony.
Crystal body structure and configuration:
It belongs to Trigonal System. The crystal body takes on prismatical structure with hexagonal cone, the surface of cone has cross grain, and there is often ceratoid color band inside the purple crystal. In nature, the crystal is often produced as of a druse with beautiful shape.
The physical properties:
The crystal takes on colorless, purple, yellow, green and smoke and so on. It has glass gloss, transparent and semi-transparent, the hardness is 7, the texture is brittle, specific gravity is 2.65 with no cleavage.
