History of Pocket Watch

Pocket watch, it is a name seemingly means that the watch could be only put in your pocket. In fact, to this kind of watch, it usually has a chain with it, so that it could be also hung on your neck and in front of your chest.

A long time ago, because of backward productivity, pocket watches had ever been luxurious consumer products to reflect people’s social position. Most of successful people prefer to wear these pocket watches to demonstrate their dignity. However, this situation was greatly changed in 1866 by Swiss. In that year, Swiss improved the design of the gearing and escapement to pocket watches. This improvement made the prime cost of producing pocket watches be lower than before. In this case, most of ordinary people could also wear these watches to tell them the time. However, several years later, the long chain no longer appeared, alternatively, it was replaced to the watchband. That means pocket watches were gradually out of the market with the fast-changing fashion. With the exit of pocket watches, wrist watches play an important role until now.

Nowadays, even though people usually prefer to wear wrist watches. However, pocket watches still have their attraction to the people who much love retro culture. So, if you purchase a pocket watch and wear it, you may find a retro temperament surround you and you will keep others eyes.
